About

My Story

I am a U.S. Navy veteran, former executive leader, author, and the founder of Courageous Faith.

For more than 25 years, I built a successful career, led large teams, and achieved many of the things people spend their lives pursuing. From the outside, everything looked right. The title. The income. The reputation. The appearance of having it all together.

What few people saw was the pressure. The exhaustion. The weight of responsibilities I was never meant to carry alone. Like many people, I became skilled at managing appearances while quietly struggling beneath the surface.

In June 2021, an alcohol-related gunshot wound nearly ended my life.

The accident was not random. It was the predictable end of a life I had been living at full speed in the wrong direction.

What followed was not just recovery. It was reconstruction.

I relearned how to speak. I rebuilt my health, my faith, my relationships, and my understanding of what truly matters. And somewhere in the middle of that process, I discovered something that changed everything.

The behavior was never the real problem. It was the signal.

Alcohol was the symptom. The deeper issues were pressure, unresolved burdens, unhealthy coping patterns, and a life that had quietly drifted away from who I was meant to be.

That realization became the foundation of Courageous Faith.

"The behavior was never the real problem.
It was the signal."
— Paul Utter

Today I work with people who look fine on the outside but are carrying something heavy on the inside.

Some are navigating addiction. Others are facing burnout, grief, loneliness, life transitions, or seasons that have left them questioning who they are and where they are headed next. The circumstances look different from person to person. The weight underneath them usually doesn't.

My approach combines lived experience, professional training, faith, and the belief that no matter how far someone has drifted — there is always a path forward.

I know that because I had to find one myself.

You do not have to carry it alone.
